Visa Types & Key Points

Business Visa (M-type / Multiple-entry)
The Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office can issue a Special Visa Invitation Letter that supports a 5-year, multiple-entry business visa allowing up to 180 days per stay—no fingerprint collection required and proxy application accepted.
Apply through your Shanghai-based company; submit passport, photo, business license, etc. File at least 2 months in advance. - 
Work Permit (Foreigner’s Work Permit)
As long as the company has a legal entity or branch in Shanghai, it can file under the “acceptance with missing documents” model and complete the file later.
HR submits the Work Permit Application Form; employees can track status on the Shanghai Government Online Platform. - 
Residence Permit (Foreigner’s Residence Permit)
Within 30 days of work-permit approval, apply for the residence permit. Shanghai PSB offers a one-stop counter with online booking.
Log in to “Shanghai International Services Portal”, book an appointment, and bring work-permit approval, rental contract, medical exam report, etc. - 
Dependents
Spouses and children receive the same residence duration; eligible senior executives’ dependents may directly obtain household registration.
Submit marriage and birth certificates, etc., and process all together at the residence-permit counter.
